My college years were steeped in wisdom development through Calligraphy. My mentor, Don Kunz, kept the Lloyd Reynolds tradition that the alphabet is also a spiritual language. This is true in Asian letters and Hebrew letters. The western alphabet has beautiful structure and clarity. Clumped together in words, they have meaning. Written in cut nib, they are elevated to art.
My other college mentor, Marvin Bialik, a Caldecott award winner, made me draw draw draw instead of run off to California like so many of my buddies.
